Here’s How Shane Tamura, 27, Allegedly Walked Into a NYC Skyscraper With a Rifle, Took an Elevator to the 34th Floor – With No Bag Checks, No Questions, and Not a Single Call to 911 Until It Was Too Late

New York City is reeling after a deadly shooting unfolded on Monday evening, July 28, in the heart of Manhattan. The attack took place at a high-rise on Park Avenue, leaving four people dead, including an NYPD officer, and ending with the shooter’s death by suicide.
Authorities confirmed that 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura, reportedly from Las Vegas, was the lone gunman. According to multiple law enforcement sources, Tamura entered the building while visibly carrying a long rifle, as seen on surveillance footage obtained by CNN. Despite the conspicuous weapon, no one alerted authorities until it was far too late.
The incident occurred inside 345 Park Avenue, a skyscraper that houses the NFL’s corporate offices, along with major firms like Blackstone and KPMG. Tamura reportedly made it all the way to the 33rd and 34th floors, where the shooting unfolded.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the “lone shooter has been neutralized.” Tamura was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor after a brief standoff.
Who Is Shane Tamura?
Shane Devon Tamura, 27, has been tentatively identified as the suspect behind what some are calling the most shocking NYC skyscraper shooting in recent memory.
Reports suggest Tamura was a former high school football standout from Granada Hills, graduating in 2016. He reportedly held a valid concealed carry permit issued by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2022. The weapon used in the attack was a .223-caliber AR-15-style rifle manufactured by Palmetto State Armory, retailing for around $420.
While an official motive has not yet been released, unverified reports on social media claim that Tamura was allegedly frustrated over a failed football career and his inability to make it into the NFL. Some speculate that targeting the NFL’s corporate offices may have been intentional, but these claims remain unconfirmed by authorities.
A City on Edge
As emergency services flooded Park Avenue and East 51st Street, New York City Mayor Eric Adams urged residents to avoid the area.
“New Yorkers: there is an active shooter investigation taking place in midtown right now,” he wrote on X. “Please take proper safety precautions if you are in the vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street.”
The bigger question now gripping the city is: How did a man carrying a rifle walk freely into a Manhattan skyscraper, take an elevator to the upper floors, and commit a mass shooting—without anyone stopping him?
No metal detectors. No bag checks. No calls to 911—until the bullets were already flying.
As investigations continue, this chilling case has raised serious questions about high-rise security, mental health monitoring, and the ease with which deadly weapons can be carried into public spaces—even in one of the most heavily policed cities in the world.
