Barack and Michelle Obama finally address divorce speculation in astonishing joint sit-down

After months of swirling speculation about the state of their marriage, Barack and Michelle Obama are breaking their silence — with humor, honesty, and signature charm.
The former President of the United States, 63, made a guest appearance on his wife Michelle’s podcast, IMO, which she co-hosts with her brother, Craig Robinson. From the very beginning of the episode, the trio didn’t shy away from confronting the rumors of separation that have been making headlines.
“What, you guys like each other?” Robinson joked, prompting laughter.
Michelle responded with a knowing smirk: “Oh yeah, the rumor mill.”
Barack chimed in playfully: “She took me back! It was touch and go for a while.”
Michelle then got candid about the chatter surrounding their relationship, saying it’s amusing how people assume the worst when the two aren’t photographed together. “It’s nice to be in the same room,” she said, before cheekily adding, “When we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.”
Then came her most heartfelt moment — a direct response to all the speculation.
“There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man,” Michelle declared, her voice full of conviction.
She continued, “We’ve had some really hard times. But we’ve also had a lot of fun, a lot of adventures. And I’ve become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
The former president nodded in agreement, visibly touched by the moment.
Craig Robinson also shared his experience with how public the rumors have become. He recalled an encounter with a fan in Wichita, Kansas.
“This woman came up to me and was so sweet, asking for a photo. Then she hit me with, ‘What did he do?’” Robinson laughed. “And I was like, what makes you think he messed up?”
Barack, for his part, admitted he doesn’t always stay up to date with what the media is saying about him. “These are the kinds of things I just miss,” he said. “Someone will mention it to me and I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’”
The Obamas, who have been married for nearly 33 years, share two daughters — Malia, 26, and Sasha, 24. Despite their long-standing bond, rumors about trouble in paradise have picked up steam in recent months, especially following Michelle’s absence at key political events like Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Those no-shows, coupled with Barack’s own remarks during an April speech — where he admitted being in a “deep deficit” with Michelle — only intensified the speculation.
“I’ve been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things,” he joked at the time, speaking to students at Hamilton College.
Michelle addressed the same topic during a podcast appearance in May with entrepreneur Steven Bartlett, saying bluntly:
“If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it,” she laughed. “I’m not a martyr. Y’all would see it.”
And last week, she spoke candidly about how life has changed now that she and Barack are empty nesters. During a new episode of IMO, she opened up to guest Julia Louis-Dreyfus, revealing:
“This stage in life, for me personally, is the first time I’ve been completely free.”
She elaborated, “There’s been a release — every choice I make is not about my husband, not about his career, not about my family, or what my kids need. It’s totally about me.” Then, with a laugh, she added: “This is when we start living, ladies!”
While the rumor mill may keep spinning, the Obamas seem unbothered — leaning into humor, love, and real talk. And if their recent podcast episode proves anything, it’s this: after more than three decades, they’re still a team — one that doesn’t mind setting the record straight with a wink, a joke, and a whole lot of love.
